I wish these weren't considered "chick cars". They really are something a bit special and were cheap as dirt the last I looked. A person could pick up a nice one and a couple of parts cars and be all set for a long time, I'd think. It's just the stigma that slows me down a tiny bit. Which is ridiculous, I know. Even I would tell myself that's stupid. Maybe I should sit myself down for a talk. Yeah, lower it a little bit, slap a VR6 in it or forced air contraption and murder it out as the kids say. Hmm. Seeing how I already drive a "chick car" Miata, maybe this is the next car for me. Ha ha! There's one tiny problem...if I don't really care about the drop-top then...GTI. Gotta think on that one and do some research!
It's funny, I think it is just our generation that thinks of them as "chick cars". My 17 y.o. son has a friend that has one, white, with a white top and white interior. I thought "oh, my", but when I asked my son if his friend took a lot of crap for that car, he said, no and had no idea why. All the chicks that owned them when they were new are now old ladies to them.
Really? That's awesome! Hmm. That gives me hope! They sure seem plentiful and super cheap.
I wonder if they think the Eos is a chick car? Whenever I see one of those, which is admittedly not that often, all I can think of is Captain EO from Disneyland. Remember that? I hate to admit it but I thought it was actually cool. Maybe I'm not the biggest Michael Jackson fan but I still found it interesting.
I wouldn't mind something like this Cabrio, with maybe an s/c slapped on it. Might be a fun toy.
I will ask him. He might not even know what it is - you see so few of them around and when you do, they just sort of blend in. Seems like they only came in dark metallic grey.
That was a funny video (at least until you got to the beauty shots). We had a B4 Passat Wagon with the VR6 in it. People rave about it, but I didn't see all the fuss about it. I thought it was kinda boring sounding and lazy. But at the same time we had a 164, so I guess to compare it to the Busso V-6 probably was unfair. Maybe it is better in something smaller and lighter.
Oh no! Comparing the VR6 to the lovely engine in the 164...that just isn't fair! Ha ha! Interesting comparison though, never occurred to me. And the VR6s that I've seen with a supercharger aren't exactly beautiful sounding, that's for sure. But maybe it would make a bit of a sleeper, was my thinking. A cheap toy to bang around in and having the top drop would only add to the experience. I'm sure it wouldn't compare to a GTI in the slightest. Maybe the 2.0 turbo would be a better match for the Cabrio?

DeleteI asked him and he said "the what?", "Oh, are those the weird looking ones?" I asked him if he'd consider it a chick car: "Yes".
DeleteHa ha! Just when I thought I had the "utes" all figured out.
