When I went to the 1986 Olympus Rally, I remember seeing Juha Kankkunen headed in the opposite direction on a county road near Oakville, WA in the Group B Peugeot 205 T-16 Rally car with a white 505 following behind, driven by Jean Todt.  Todt ran the Peugeot works Rally Team, prior to running the Ferrari F1 team.

Gianni's cars part 12: 1991 Mazda Miata

At the end of September we bought a 1991 Miata with the "A" package.  It is a stock, two owner car with 46K miles on it.  The previous owner owned it for the last 10 years.  I wanted one when they came out in late 1989, but there was no way I could afford a new car.  All we have done to it has been change the plugs and ignition wires, replace the 10 year old tires, remove the "baby teeth" and upgrade the horn to an air horn after an SUV almost took me out on 405 on the drive home after buying it.  Other than that we've just been driving it...

Update: Where is White Rabbit now?

A couple months ago I sold my 1984 Rabbit GTI on Bring a Trailer.  I would recommend using them if you have an interesting classic for sale.  The fees were reasonable as compared to EvilBay and you can avoid the fun of selling via Criagslist.  It was also good in that I knew the car was going to go to a good home where it's originality would be preserved.

My former car was bought by Ted in Newport Beach, CA.  Ted has continued the work we were doing to preserve the car.  He has fixed the deteriorating rear seat and had a dent wizard take out some of the dents.  Ted recently took the car to Cars and Coffee in Irvine, CA.  I always thought that would be a good venue to show it off.  Thanks Ted for sending these.

Gianni's cars part 11: 1974 Kawasaki G4TRD "Trail Boss"

OK, so it isn't a car, but I also have a 1974 Kawasaki Trail Boss.  100cc's of 2-smoke fury.  I bought it a couple of years ago.  When I was a kid, we had a 1972 Trail Boss, so it brings back memories.  It's in stock condition with about 3,000 miles.  Since these photos were taken, I've had the seat recovered in the correct, pleated material.  It was sold new in Alaska and must have spent much of its time in a garage.  It's fun to ride it around and kill mosquitos in my neighborhood.  When was the last time you saw a 2-stroke on the street...

OT: Old School

I ordered some new Blizzaks for the Ski Mobile from Tire Rack and had them shipped to Omni Brake & Alignment in Totem Lake.  It was pretty cool to get a hand written paper work order that the owner wrote out. It was carbon triplicate and I got the yellow copy.  I used to get these all the time when I had my Alfa serviced by specialist shops, but sadly they have almost all gone away (the carbon triplicate work orders).

OT: Works of Art

My Alfa Romeo GTV had a rear caliper that was dragging, so I removed them and sent them off to PMB Performance in Utah and had them rebuilt.  What came back were works of art.

 

It's almost a shame to put them back on the car and cover them with brake dust...
